This is my environment: OS Win 8.1 (updated), Avast Free Antivirus 2015.10.0.2208.
Something more: the version and number of the virus definitions result unknown.

Both computers at home using Avast are having the exact issue for me, too. Turning off several times. Both are up-to-date w/ the latest version (2015.10.0.2208).

Guys, sorry for this issue. There was a bug in the previous VPS crashing AVAST Service under some circumstances (scheduled quick scan). Fixed VPS has been already released. You can fix this issue by reboot or you can wait a few minutes for a patch we will deliver to you.

Agreed.  But does.

Sometimes the best fix is waiting a day. So glad I decided to do that. Avast had it fixed quickly. Good job. Thank you here at the forum too.

From the beginning of january, Avast keeps stopping at least once a day, though I've tried a clean install and updates. No malicious software found neither with Avast nor with other software. I can't see a pattern when it happens, it's randomly. I must say, I never had problems with Avast before.

Can you explain or post a screen shot of what you mean by Avast stops at least once per day ???
