Avast is missing
« on: February 20, 2015, 06:21:35 AM »
This is crazy, turn computer on and Avast is completely gone. Gets even crazier, tried to view a PDF document and Foxit Reader is also missing. Installed Recuva to look for the missing programs and nothing, not 1 single file from either program, like the 2 programs never existed. I was able to download and install both programs without problems. Just weird they all of a sudden come up missing like that.

Have you looked on the drive to see if the avast folder was still there ?

I suggest you follow these instructions:

I forgot to mention, I ran Avast and it found no problems. I also ran malwarebytes, adwcleaner, CCleaner, Spybot, Junkware Removal Tool utility, Microsoft Security Essentials, everthing came up with no problems found. I plugged in the Ethernet cable, fired up Firefox with Yahoo as home page. Avast popped up with infection url:mal. I'm trying to work that problem now. I still can't find anything that caused Avast and Foxit to just disappear.

Follow Eddy´s instructions and attach logs for Malwarebytes ( MBAM ), Farbar Recovery Scan Tool ( FRST ), and aswMBR.exe.

First thing to do is choosing what av you want to use.
Avast, MSE or defender.
Running multiple av's in real time on a system is a dead end street.

No apparent reason showing there as to why this happened

Do a google search for "missing folders".  All kinds of incidents occurred like this over the years where files and folders went missing.  Possibly there is a solution there for you.  You can rule out it being specifically avast related because foxit went away as well.  The info is probably still there on disk but not being displayed.

Good luck.
