Blue Screen when trying to create a rescue disk on USB
« on: February 21, 2015, 10:27:55 AM »
Please help!
Whenever I try to create a rescue media on USB, the progress bar goes up to about 40% and then Windows stops with a Blue Screen.

Software:
- WinXP SP3 (with all updates)
- free AVAST Antivirus (up to date)

Blue Screen message:
Stop 0x00000024 (0x001902FE,0xA31605BC,0xA31602B8,0xB9E22736)
Ntfs.sys - Address B9E22736 base at B9E22000, Datestamp 48025be5

The help message on top of the BlueScreen suggests to run CHKDSK /F, but this also did not change the result.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?
Thanks a lot in advance!!!

You will need an XP Installation CD to try to fix this.  If you do not have one, try to borrow one just to run this fix.

Configure your PC to boot from CD if it isn't already set up that way. You may need to enter the BIOS to configure the PC to boot from the CD.

Set the boot order to
floppy (if present)
CD/DVDROM
Hard disk
SAVE and EXIT

Start your PC with the XP Setup CD in the drive. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD..." prompt, do so and let the CD-based boot process begin.

When the Recovery Console option is offered (Press R to start the Recovery Console), do so. You may be asked which Windows installation to enter, in which case type the number of the Windows installation you wish to work on (usually 1).

When prompted, enter the Administrator's password for that Windows installation. If you did not set a password just press ENTER

At the command prompt, type

chkdsk /r  (there is a space before the /)

Enter

Thanks a lot!
But chkdsk /r did not find any errors on C. Another hard disk actually has been fixed by chkdsk /r (some bad clusters), but not the system drive.
...and the Blue Screen appears again (just as before).

Has someone another idea?

Check for newer divers for your motherboard and devices and install them if there are any.
If there are no newer drivers, (re)install the latest ones you can find.
