Security certificate problem with Outlook 2007 and avast
« on: February 24, 2015, 03:11:58 PM »
Have a new Pc. If I run Outlook 2007 I get an error message

The sever you are connected to is using a security certificate that cannot be verified.
The target principal name is incorrect

If I view the certificate it said issued to   *.Hotmail.com
Issued by Avast web/mail shield root

I have Outlook 2007 and Avast installed on another PC and they work fine.  Have checked the settings in each one and they seem to be the same.
Thanks for any help.

Does not make a lot of sense. But the solution was to download and install SP3 for outlook 2007.

It makes perfectly sense.
Especially when it comes to security programmers assume that you have the latest (security) patches/fixes installed.
Since the certificate is there for security and you didn't have installed the patches/fixes, it is only logical that things are not working (correctly).

What doesn't make sense is that you are running old (obsolete) software on a new system.
