« on: February 27, 2015, 04:24:55 AM »
Avast deleted the Firefox browser and doesn't let me to re-install it.

I got some add-ons: downloadhelper and web developer.

My Avast is 7.0.1426, free version.

1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

If I may...
Just a sugestion...
Go to https://www.malwarebytes.org/
Download a free version.
Disable Avast temporarly..
Do a scan with AntiMalvare.
Remove everything that AntiMalvare finds..
Re-enable your Avast..
Then install FireFox again.
Should work ;)

That does not change the fact, that the user's protection and ability to Detect (in other words) protect his system is "seriously outdated".
Version 7 is not comparable to latest version and is outdated technology.

Other than the obviously very outdated version of Avast being used there is no need to disable Avast to run a scan with Malwarebytes.

The user asked the solution to the problem with the FireFox and his version of Avast, and I (hopefully) suggested an solution to his problem.

His Avast antivirus is telling him to update to the latest version.
Let him update (or not) if the user really wants to.
Be free. Be really free :/

"there is no need to disable Avast to run a scan with Malwarebytes"
Agree.
Just a suggestion.
Or not - do not disable Avast temporarily.

You didn't offer any solution, the solution is to update avast to the current version to get compatibility with newer programs.

Ok.
Update to the latest Avast. :)
Let latest version of Avast detect any outdated software on a computer (that's an new feature, nice one, totally unexpected for an Antivirus software if you ask me...)

Might someone consider to add this feature too:
- Wake-up an programmer or a developer in the middle of the night just to update his or her's (outdated) software for some consumer, if such outdated software is found on certain computer by new version of Avast...

(By the way, I'm being sarcastic now..)

From a free Antivirus I just whant a file shield, and perhaps maybe a firewall..
Nothing more... nothing less..
But then again - that's just my opinion..

Sorry for my reply.
Wont visit here anymore.
Bye

You where not forced to install the software updater, it was your own choice to install it.
Besides that, it is really easy to remove/disable it.

You are forgetting the mail scanner.

And like the software updater, it is your choice to have other options of avast or not.

Aren't we all missing the point here? Avast, allegedly, removed or disabled key components of a commonly used browser: Firefox, so it now doesn't work and, apparently won't allow the user to reinstall it.

Whatever the age of the Avast version being used it shouldn't be doing this and if it did it is worrying.

One of the thing I learned the hard way is that it is best to disable all automatic updates/updaters/update options for everything, even Windows. Do it when you want it done and not in the middle of something important when it will, at the very least, slow down your machine and internet connection.

Discipline yourself to doing it manually on a regular (weekly) basis and always put in a restore point before doing so. The one thing I have that auto-updates now is Avast itself. That is only because last time I tried turning that option off I found the frequent warnings that my system wasn't' properly protected far more annoying than the update messages.

AVs and updates are occasionally a poisonous mix so take control of the latter yourself to minimise that risk.

What I'm still finding hard to understand is the Title of this topic "Avast Deleted My Firefox."

I can understand if using the Browser Cleanup tool, it is only looking for browser add ons that it believes to be bad - there is no way it has the functionality to completely remove firefox only the add ons. I also don't know if the Browser Cleanup tool is even a part of Avast 7.0.1426, free version.

We have all seen in the forums that the browser cleanup tool removed some add ons that the user felt were OK - but even so doesn't the user has to authorise avast to remove said add ons.

So colour me confused.

Firefox (EXE file of the browser) is infected with... something...
It would help to see/know the Avast's last message or a popup of the Avast regarding this matter.
Blocking the Firefox is... OK by Avast...
If disabled (Avast) the user would probably be compromised in this situation.
I suggested the third party software solution for the purpose of cleaning.
Really simple AntiMalvare is..
After that should work OK - his current version of Avast, reinstalled or updated - whatever.
