Avast is not allowed to do this!
« on: February 27, 2015, 05:25:42 AM »
After I clicked ONLY to update my VIRUS DEFINITION, Avast 7.0.1474 asked an restart of the server system. (Restart is not allowed!) Eventually, it restarted itself after a couple of days...

After the restart - it installed Avast 9 on to my server?!?
That was NOT ALLOWED, no NEW Avast, only a virus definiton update was approved by the server administration!

New surprise: when opened the Netscape Messenger for email; Avast 9 screwed up the SSL certificate?!?

Wohohoo!?! Why??

That's it! Avast is uninstalled from my server! :/

Image:

In addition to the toppic:
When Netscape Mail sends an email, Avast notified something like: "avast certified your email"
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!?
What Avast 9 did to (one of my) outgoing email??
Did it inserted an Avast "message" at the bottom of the email?!?
THAT IS NOT ALLOWED!
NO TEXTUAL INSERTION IN TO AN OUTGOIN EMAIL!!! :(
(No screenshots available regarding THIS subject!) :(
Avast 9 removed the "avast certified your email" message before I managed to capture an screenshot, and never repeated that message again! :/

Status: Avast 9 uninstalled...
Never again in my life :(

avast sure is allowed to that, read the eula.

avast 7 is NOT server versions, you are not allowed to use them on a server OS.

Version 9 is not even a release: https://www.avast.com/release-history

Update of the application is needed if you want to receive VPS updates.
Version 7 is not supported anymore.

Running one of those versions is really foolish anyway since they are way outdated.

There is nothing strange to see in the picture.

avast did not screw up anything.
You just haven't setup things correctly to use ssl.

I will update my version of Avast... in 2 or 3 years from now... Or to be more precise, when ever Virus Definition Files become incompatible with this version of the Avast, then I'll consider update of the program...
The time has come to update to the latest version for you.

avast sure is allowed to that, read the eula.
- Nope, I didn't found it in the Eula... But then again, maybe I missed it.

avast 7 is NOT server versions, you are not allowed to use them on a server OS.
- Avast 7.0.1474 vas installed on this computer a couple years ago, when the computer vas a plain home computer. It was a (shout cast) server (for an Internet radio station) only from January of this year (2015). OS is the same, never ever reinstalled OS, just the restart of this computer was not acceptable at any moment (whenever -> never, except due to the power loss).

Update of the application is needed if you want to receive VPS updates.
- Not true. If I'm not missing the point due to my knowledge or understanding of the English language, they do work on Avast 7.0.1474 even today.

Version 7 is not supported anymore.
- Reinstalled Avast 7.0.1474 does the updates of its virus definitions perfectly OK NOW. It works as expected. It detects (some of my test) viruses in my file-system, which proves its protection is valid and OK. What then you mean by the term "not supported anymore"?

Running one of those versions is really foolish anyway since they are way outdated.
- Really dont care. Never ever had a virus on my computer. I don't do much of the Internet-surfing, never use the USB memory stick from non-reliable sources, never install (but I do create a software of my own, mainly in DOS environment) so REALLY I never ever had any virus on my system.
Could live  without an antivirus on my computer, but I guess THAT WOULD be... folish :)

There is nothing strange to see in the picture
- Yes it is; the Netscape mail worked perfectly ok BEFORE Avast's "surprise" of an version-update! New version of Avast, WITHOUT PROMPTING changed the SSL certificate in my Netscape email. Uninstalling the new 2015 Avast - Netscape mail worked OK again. Antivirus must NOT interfere with other software configuration. If there is NO threat in the file system, and no threat in the firewall then no "job" for any Antivirus to interfere there! Avast (2015) or "9" or whatever You call it - DID CHANGE the SSL settings of my Netscape mail without asking (me) for it. There were even no notification for it! Netscape mail clearly shows "Could not verify this certificate for unknown reasons" and further below states: "Certificate issued by: avast! Web/Mail Shield Roor". That is not accepteable by Netscape mail itself!

avast did not screw up anything.
- Wake up and smell the reality. Only thing that worked OK in the new version of Avast was its Uninstaller (Thank You, Lord!)

You just haven't setup things correctly to use ssl.
- Again: Netscape Mail worked perfectly BEFORE the Avast's update to new version of the Antivirus

The time has come to update to the latest version for you.
- To be more precise, when ever Virus Definition Files become incompatible with this version of the Avast. (They are stil compatible).

P.S. Can you PLEASE inform me what did "avast certified your email" message ment?
What did new, un-wanted version of Avast (9) or "2015" did to one of my outgoing emails??
Did it add an textual line to the bottom of the (outgoing) email stating something about itself (commercial message??)
Please... tell me it did NOT do that?

P.P.S. I forgot to mention one simple thing:
I really DO like Avast 7.0.1474 version :/

I do care:
No, it is not related only to me.
Whole REGION of Republic Srpska is unable to acces your forum via the Google Chrome.
But on all of those computers access to forum IS POSSIBLE if the user is using - Netscape browser.
You might wanna look in to this... :/

(Affected Internet Service Provider is named telekom srpska)
That is an ADSL line.

Even today, Netscape CAN access Your forum, while at the sime time (some) ADSL lines can't (via the Google Chrome).

But never mind.
It is NOT due to the forum, but wide-local problem (arround here).
And I did asked arround... and arround.. And no one cared...

Whatever.
Thanks for your reply.

Any insights regarding the "avast certified your email" thing ?

Ever thought it might be Chrome's problem and not avast!'s? Considering it works in other browser?

Chrome (new version of the browser) to have a problem?!
NOOO!!! Never thought of that!
Considering it works on Netscape (browser from the year of 1999)
It CAN'T BE due to the (new version of the browser) - Chrome!
I thought that solution to almost all computer related problems is just to update and use current version of everything or anything...

Export avast's certificate, import it in the mail client.
