It's Chinese GFW. DNS of avast! update servers had been polluted and my avast! def stops at Feb. 24th.
However avast! only supports HTTP and SOCKS4 proxy, this is not enough. Many mainstream proxies are using SOCKS5 now...

Sorry to hear that. It seems that it is the China's great firewall. Have you subscribed any VPN service? You may try it to jump through the Wall but I heard from some sources that the Wall has just been strengthened to make VPN service outside your country inaccessible. Anyway, I wonder how could you access this website? Some sources do also state that the whole foreign websites would be demolished soon.

Thanks guys. We are actively investigating the issue via our Chinese office and we will be doing our best to lift that ban ASAP.

Thanks

Your site was blocked by keywords. That means if you type request any data containing .avast.com via http, your connection will lost (for example typing www.microsoft.com/?.avast.com in browser). But using https can solve it. There are many methods Chinese government used to block a site. Some sites may got DNS poision(like wikipedia and google), others ips are blocked(like facebook). Key word is just one method used on v2ex and avast in recent times.

The block might be related to the new function of VPN security line.....
Very upset to hear the news... (Actually most of Chinese, like me, jump through the Wall by GoAgent..)
Hope to see off-line update packs on the website...
:(
