Outlook/Exchange Provider not working!
« on: October 02, 2005, 11:48:58 AM »
Can anyone help me?
I just installed AVAST home edition.
But everything but the Outlook/Exchange provider seems to be working.
There is a message on top when I click the Outlook/Exchange provider. It says "The provider is waiting for a subsytem to start."
What does this mean?
I'm using WinXP Home Edition and Outlook Express for my emails. ???

That is correct - nothing to worry about.
The Outlook/Exchange provider protects the full MS Outlook, not Outlook Express (which is protected by the Internet Mail provider).

Thanks for the reply!!!

So, I don't need to do anything. That's great.

Igor - I am having a similar problem.  My e-mail client is Outlook 2003 SP1.  It did not open properly a few days ago and had to be restarted in safe mode.  Now it starts very slowly (as though it is looking for an add-in it cannot find).  The Avast! logo never appears, and I have the same note (waiting for a subsystem to start) on the Outlook/Exchange Provider.

Make sure the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:

Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.

The message "The provider is waiting on the subsystem to start" will be shown there until you open MS Outlook.
The plugin will be enabled automatically after that.

Thank you Tech - that did it.  I love Avast - I have it running on 2 family laptops and a desktop, and it runs better than any of the commercial antivirus systems I have used.
