I have just connected to my ebay summary and no issues - XP Pro, Firefox 36.0 and avast free 2015.10.2.2214.

I don't use Hotmail so I can't test that.

Have you got the latest avast version as mentioned ?

You could also try just disabling the HTTPS scanning in the Web Shield Settings rather than completely disabling the Web Shield.
