Outlook/Exchange provider necessary?
« on: October 02, 2005, 11:25:07 PM »
Hello,

I noticed that the Internet Mail provider scan also emails from Outlook (using outlook 2003 @ windows xp).
I temporary remove the outlook provider for testing thunderbird and I think that I don't need it to reinstall.

Do I need the outlook provider for an intensive scan?
I don't need avast signature in mails!

You can disable the signature in the mail in the settings of the provider.

There is nothing wrong with showing people that your mails are scanned and clean.

Internet mail provider is not scanning mails in Outllook/Exchange.
For that you need the outlook/exchange provider.

Outlook/Exchange - Provider Settings

Quote
This setting affects MS Outlook and MS Exchange mail clients only.
For setting up the other mail clients, such as Outlook Express, Eudora etc., see Internet Mail Provider.

no its working fine.
I try sending me dummy virus files from:

http://www.heise.de/security/dienste/emailcheck/demos/go.shtml?kategorie=virendummies (german)

and avast detect them correctly.

I'm using original outlook 2003 NOT the Express Version.

Do you want a log file or so?

I don't know whats about exchange. I don't have it here.

Internet Mail provider does scan mails from full Outlook in the situation where the Outlook / Exchange provider is either uninstalled or (perhpas) just turned off.

You may choose whichever provider you like best. Outlook / Exchange is more suitable for full Outlook, it does not have problems with timeouts, can scan emails coming from SSL secured connections, can protect you from infected emailes already in your .PST file and the like. It costs you nothing when Outlook is not running (no memory or CPU time).
