New install error - License for AV_LNX missing
« on: March 05, 2015, 03:19:12 PM »
I have used Avast with Windows for a number of years and now I am trying out Avast for Linux. I am running Ubuntu 14.04 and followed the installation instructions here: http://files.avast.com/files/documentation/techdoc-avast-linux-en.pdf. Avast installed successfully, but after I copied my license file to /etc/avast/license.avastlic, it failed to start up. I assume this is because my current license file is for WINDOWS only.  I contacted Avast Support for an updated license and was informed:
"Unfortunately, we don't support Linux system. We already don't have any Avast products for Linux system in our offer Only for servers."

Is Avast for Linux only for enterprise customers and/or server builds, not paid home edition users?

From the log:
Mar 4 22:01:07 mymachinename avast: Starting daemon.
Mar 4 22:01:12 mymachinename avast: Loaded VPS #15030403
Mar 4 22:01:12 mymachinename avast: License for AV_LNX missing in /etc/avast/license.avastlic
Mar 4 22:01:12 mymachinename avast: Fatal error. Exiting.

Yes, the Linux version is a product for Linux servers with licensing different from the "user editions".
