It would be nice however to have an announcement if something went wrong
and the streaming updates stopped working.

That was something I mentioned in one of the topics talking about the missing VPS update alerts. How long does it take Avast to alert you that it has not received streaming or VPS updates ?

My vote is an option not listed: Bring it back for people who want it, but make sure it is easy to disable for people who don't.

I find it very annoying, but I respect those who love it.

As someone who will never use the voices for update notifications, I'm not thrilled that they would take up hard drive space, but, honestly Avast has become bloated, and I doubt the sound files would be very big compared to the rest of the bloat.

1. when it was there like most avast settings there was an ability to disable it.

2. Are you serious, the hard disk space taken up would be minuscule - I have an old .wav copy of just the virus_db_updated.wav and it is a whole 35KB.

As for bloat - as people have said many times, do a custom install and only check the features that you want.

I thought I hadn't heard it for a while, and was wondering what was going on. YES! BRING IT BACK!!!

Why get rid of it in the first place?  ???

I never used it myself (have all avast sounds disabled), but voted yes since it should be available to anyone who does want it.

I just thought of another option, now that most if not all definition updates are streamed ... I'm assuming there would not be a notification with every streaming update, since you wouldn't be able to get much done that way, with the near-constant distractions.  What if you had to choose (in your settings) between enabling notifications and enabling streaming updates?  Could/would that be a practical option?

I've always disabled this thing (popup and voice) so I don't really miss it at all. I see no point in AV distracting user with constant pointless popups and sounds. I only want it to notify me if something goes wrong and it stops updating for whatever reason. That's when I want to be notified. And I do get. So all is well.

My vote is an obvious NO.

I agree 100%, but will probably vote 'yes' to give people a choice.  Although after DavidR's response, I'm tempted to vote 'No'.  Lol.

I didn't get a chance to vote, darn.  But would have voted "YES" for the obvious reason you can always turn it off if you don't want it.  What's the problem with having the option either way?

I've always used it in the past until recently (past few months) and have now disabled it only because I have voice on all my incoming mail and prefer to avoid the growing potential conflict since I do get a lot of mail.

But that said, I think users should have the choice.

I'm actually surprised to hear that apparently Avast2015 no longer has voice alert.  I am still using Avast2014 for MANY reasons other than this, here's one more reason why I'd prefer to stay with Avast2014 (I prefer choices, especially regarding this and if not for my voice email arrival notifications that I have this would have been one more among several reasons some of which are to name a few dnsrslvr problems, context scan issues, webshield and NG issues among the many issues along with an inappropriate "store" tab with opt-out apparently only available during install among other things that for me causes me to be very reticent to even consider using Avast2015).

We all stand exactly where we stood before this "Vote" was posted.
If Avast chooses to re-enable the notification, then they'll do so.
If no, learn to accept Avast the way it is. There are ways to make sure the update is working without a voice reminder. :)
