@CATL,
I've applied this fix once and as you can see, it's still working:

I traced my excessive Disk usage to WmiPrvSE.exe
And as you can see, I've found a solution.

Open your Services program. The easiest way to find is just click Start, type Services, hit Enter.

Under Services (Local), scroll down until you find the “Windows Management Instrumentation” service and select Restart.

Well Bob, I know you are very helpful...however this did nothing. I did click restart on that yesterday.  Rebooted my PC and the same issue.  Massive amounts of CPU usage and my poor  drive is taking a a whooping.  Plus, when I go online it take 3 times as long for a page to load than it did before the most current version 2015.10.2. 2215.
I did some further checking and I question for you.  When I open my task manager to processes, I click all users.
I am attaching a snip--maybe you can tell me why the differences in users for different Avast processes.  I am still believing this is an Avast issue.
Hoping for help.  Thanks Bob!

I think this has more to do with the type of system access required.
The UI requiring only user access.
I'm again reporting this to a Moderator in hopes of getting some sort of reply and input from Avast.

I've had the same issue and have had all shields disabled for a couple weeks now. I had just built this computer around the 2nd week of March and found that I had 10TB written to my 500gb SSD in a week. By the time I figured out what the problem was and disabled Avast, I'm at 30TB written in less than a month. My warranty is only good until 300TBW. I want to know what Avast is going to do to compensate us for the abuse of our hard drives. 10% of the life of my SSD is gone in less than a month. We should be able to rely on antivirus companies to keep our computers safe. But Avast has done more damage to my computer in a month than any virus has done to me in 20 years.

Bob
Has there been any time frame given by Avast team for the next SP that is supposedly going to fix this bug?
It's been over a month already,  and I refuse to boot my system until I am assured of a fix.
This bug is worse than any virus I've ever dealt with.  ::)
Thanks for helping out with this.

Interesting,  everyday there's new topics with same issue, with different titles.  Poor users. :'(  This is very frustrating.
Do you have any suggestions what I can do in the meantime.  I need to use my desktop--- my smartphone can only do so much.
Maybe I'll check with bleeping computer

Have the same problem for a month now, first ssd corrupt (>60TB writes)
My new one 17TB in 2 weeks, so I contact avast and this is response:

Quote
I just have found out that this fix will be released in next program update within 2 weeks.
It's caused during data are copied from USB to computer. You can disable File system shield if you want to copy data. That's workaround till fix will be released.

If I didn't checked the smart data this second disk will be 'dead' in a couple of months.
It doesn't seem there will be any compensation so...

Bye Avast  >:(

Hello,

we are working on this issue, it should be fixed in next SP the latest.

Thanks,
B.

Same problem with 2015.10.2.2215
The problem come from the clouds mirroring

lscache.dat stop growing and fragmenting
if parameter "scan when writing" is put off

or if i stop cloud mirroring

lscache.dat very big and fragmented
to use avast (windows 8.1) i have to stop "scan when writing"

That's not good. If this isn't solved in time when Microsoft release Windows 10 and I upgrade to Windows 10 for free and avast is installed I am surely going to come across this. I will PM one avast member and let see if he can solve and make this number 1 priority.

I am waiting patiently as are many others.  Windows updates released yesterday.   Yikes  :o. Now it's really bad.
CPU is running 100% about 99% of the time.
I hope your post Endt is right
