Just installed the latest Avast (free) update. As I have gotten weekly, it immediately said I have "poor-reputation" extensions in my browser, and offers to clean them out. As in the past, the "bad" extension was listed as "Plugins for Google Chrome" (there is no such extension in either of my browsers). In the past, it churned for almost 2 minutes and at the end, and ultimately said it failed to remove the "Plugins". But the new version succeeded -- much to my detriment. It removed my Adblock Plus, all of the benchmarks in the Benchmarks Bar, changed my theme back to the default, removed the "Home" icon I had installed, and erased everything in my Google calendar, including the settings.
So. . . if you've recently updated to the latest version of Avast, I suggest you DO NOT allow it to "clean your browsers". Their definition of "clean" is "restore to base level".
