DID YOU SEND THIS EMAIL? I WILL NOT CLICK ON LINKS!!!
WHY DIDN'T YOU SEND AN EMAIL WITH A CODE SO THAT I CAN GO TO YOUR SITE ON MY OWN AND ENTER THE CODE? WOULDN'T THAT MAKE MORE SENSE GIVEN THAT I DON'T KNOW IF YOU SENT ME THIS EMAIL OR IF YOUR LIST WAS HACKED?
FOR THOSE OF US WHO HAVE HAD EXPERIENCE WITH BEING HELD FOR RANSOM WITH OUR DATA, LINKS ARE A THING OF THE PAST.
I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU SEND BOTH OPTIONS. WHAT DO YOU THINK.

Yes it's genuine and yes you need to click on the link to verify the email that you used to set up your my.avast.com account.
The confusing part is this: "NOTE: Information email only – PLEASE DO NOT REPLY"
I've had several emails asking what to do with this email and have had a few questions during my presentations.
If you are not computer savvy, you could assume that the do not reply means don't click on the link.
Do not reply actually means don't reply to this email address if you have a problem.

I agree entirely with gilbertramirezpt; this email looks and reads just like a phishing email.  It is several days since I registered an additional email address for a different computer and this email was unexpected.  Normal procedure everywhere when setting up an account with an email address that needs to be verified is to inform the new customer that a confirmation email will be sent immediately with a link that should be clicked.  An unexpected email some days later with a link is certainly suspicious, so much so that my gmail account immediately identified it as spam.  I am an experienced computer user and this email rang all of the warning bells.  It does not give me any confidence in Avast.  The reassurances in the other responses have led me to to "click the link" but I would have expected these other experienced forum members to have been more supportive to the concerns of gilbertramirezpt.  By the way, my email did not include the line "NOTE: Information email only – PLEASE DO NOT REPLY".

The concerns expressed here are perfectly sound, especially if verification emails are delayed as described.

And what is so hard about doing a little search for id.avast.com and sees what comes up ?

Do you thoroughly investigate every phishing attempt that comes in? In my case, it must have been at least a week since I ran installation. I've worked in IT security for over a decade and this set off my alarms for both content and presentation. If something fails a first glance test, it is usually getting deleted. Since I am an Avast user and have been for years, it was investigated a bit, which led me here. I know how to check headers on emails, see if a hyperlink is pointing to where it says it is, verifying SSL certificates etc. A typical user probably doesn't, and to expect them to is foolish.

Yes I do and not only phishing attempts but all suspicious things.
