How to uninstall Chrome
« on: March 11, 2015, 10:33:10 PM »
Last night I installed latest Avast virus definitions 150310-1 10/3/2015 11.44 pm
When installing it said "installing Chrome", which I don't want. I've seen opt-outs when downloading Avast updates before and check NO, but didn't notice this time. Chrome started to install right after I was on Avast and definitely came from Avast. What is easiest way to get rid of all of the Chrome files. I use Windows XP SP3, and Windows explorer 8, which I still have.

Thanks Eddy. I guess I should also delete all references to Google Chrome or Chrome in the registry and delete any references on a search of win XP. I had thought maybe I could uninstall everything in one go. Thanks again.

Unfortunately uninstalling through control panel almost always leaves traces behind.
It is not hard to program a uninstaller that removes everything, but only a few developers are doing so  :(

I suggest this:
1]
Remove through control panel

2]
Search for chrome on your drive(s) and delete every thing you find

3]
Run CCleaner and Glary Utilities (registry) and have them clean things.

Thanks Eddy. that's what I ended up doing. It works out quite well doing it that way.

Hi Eddy . . . Am I Posting to the Correct Forum???

After an hour doing a Google Search and then an Avast Forum Search I actually found this posting.  So, if I am in the wrong spot, just give me a link to the correct place and I will be on my way.... and thanks again for any advice or words of wisdom you might have in resolving this nusaunce.  ;D

Regarding Google Chrome:
1) I too had Google Chrome quietly installed on my computer without my permission or knowedge.  It was not until after it was installed, via Avast, that I found it and I have the paid version.   Seriously, I could understand receiving it if I had the Free version, but not the paid one.   >:(

2) Thank you for the Google Link Eddy.  Yes, I followed it and whooops! Wouldn't you know it, Chrome is not listed in the uninstall section of the control panel. Oh my...what now? :(

3) I also followed your other link; "Please search before asking/posting - Get help with malware removal on this webboard." Okay, I followed this link too and the very first thing I saw in big bold letters were  "This is an information only topic ~ Do not post logs or ask for help here. To get assistance create a  topic in the Virus and Worms forum"  Wow, give me your money and go away....that was alot of help.  :o

4) Did a through C:search and found that Avast had not only down loaded Chrome but that it is scattered all over my computer.  See Avast/WebRep   ::)

5) I did a search and found bits and pieces of Chrome Everywhere!  Odds are very good if I try to remove Chrome a piece at a time I will only wind up corrupting my system... Hmmm.  :-[

Well, I guess this leaves me with only one solution, uninstalling Avast entotal, and then reinstalling it?  Is that about right?

No other qick easy soution that you know of???     :-\

;D 180 days left on my paid subscription....   :)....lots to think about.

1]
It was installed with your permission.
When installing something, always choose a custom installation ;)

2]
If it is installed, it should be there.
Could be listed as Chrome or Google Chrome.
Please check again.

3]
What it says is not to post in that thread, but start you own thread in the "Virus and Worms" if you want help there.

5]
Removing avast will not remove Chrome.

A program called "Revo Uninstaller" is quite good for removing all / most traces of a software.

Just use the "advanced" option to uninstall, and then select to delete all remaining registry entries when prompted.

Hello.

Avast installs Google Chrome browser, and then there's no way to uninstall it through the "Control panel" or "Uninstall" app.

I found a correct way to uninstall Chrome. It's need to download and install Chrome from official website. Chrome will appear in "Control panel/Programs/Programs and Features". Then Chrome could be uninstalled in usual way.

Posting in an old and outdated topic is never a good idea.
If you want to offer help, do it for something current.
