no Avast sound on windows 10
« on: September 08, 2015, 07:54:12 PM »
Hi, after upgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 10, I installed today Avast free (the latest version) and noticed that there is no sound: no message of welcome, no alarm on virus detection, no voice on completed scan, nothing.
I checked the sound settings and everything seems okay, also the game mode is disabled. The Avast audio files are in their folder and if I run them they work properly.
Thinking of a bad installation I tried to repair and then also to uninstall and reinstall Avast two times using the Avast removal tool with no result. Temporarily I switched to windows defender.
I've looked for other posts on this issue but found nothing. I'm the only one facing this problem?

Have or are you able to update your audio drivers :-\

Actually I don't think is an audio drivers' issue because I've no problem with any other application, game etc, just with Avast   :-\
Btw audio drivers are already updated.

Well, looks like I have the same problem. I tried to trigger notification sounds by purposely feeding EICAR testfile to Avast and it detects it like it should, but no voiceover/sound notification at all no matter how I fiddle those settings. Also using Windows 10, if it matters.

E: also zero problems with audio otherwise, so it really can't be audio drivers.

Exactly. It detects eicar but no voiceover/sound notification.
Glad I 'm not the only one.

Yes. All the sounds and voiceover are enabled.

I also haven't heard any sounds while using Avast on Windows 10. I've reported this to Avast.
Let's see if we get a reply.
Having said that, Avast is still protecting me. I certainly wouldn't stop using it in favor of Defender. :)

Yeah, switching to Defender seems to be a bad idea just because of this, especially because OP said that it still detects Eicar for him. If I have to choose between a mute and powerful AV or a bad AV with sounds, the former always wins - of course still hoping that this gets fixed soon.

Hiya, I have the same problem. Since a month ago ALL sounds have ceased and I am very puzzled as to WHY? This is affecting XP, Vista and Windows 7. Not sure about 8&9[8.1]. I don't use Win10 but according to the afforementioned complaints above it is affaecting all windows by the sounds of it.

Why has the sounds stopped and why is nothing being done about it? I know this might sound trivial but I have got used to the sounds of virus database updated for the last 11 years of using Avast which is by far the best system to use! :-)
