since updating avast a couple of hours ago i cant access google, yahoo or a much of anything unless i turn off web shield. running windows 7, avast 2015. everything worked fine with no problems until i rebooted machine after update. have googled this but nothing seems to address the problem. only thing that works is turning off web shield which makes it pointless. any help appreciated.

apologies for not printing full error message, it reads: avast web shield has blocked access to this site as the certificate is invalid, gives address of site after this eg: google.com etc. once again, any help appreciated

Have you tried unchecking the HTTPS scanning option in the Web Shield settings ?

Did you use the uninstall tool before doing the fresh installation ?

hello and yes, used it in safe mode. turning off https scanning has worked, but whats the point of including such a feature if https pages cannot be browsed....unless turning off the feature. i havent tried using any other browser except firefox, i dont use any other so no point at least as far as i am concerned. some googling shows i am not the only avast user experiencing this issue. not happy with this, it seems like bad coding, and am wary of an antivirus program with bad coding. have used avast for years and not willing to change but maybe that time.

Try a "Repair" of Avast: Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > double/click on Avast in the list to go into setup and select "Repair" and see if this helps.

Hi laksrool, tried a repair but no change....i didnt expect much as if you remember, this is a fresh install. so once again, problem is resolved, if as an avast user, im happy to forgo https scanning. now, personally i always use firefox and always in sandboxie, so, web shield may not be the biggest loss to my security if sandboxie is doing its job, but again, what is the point of a browser protection system that only allows a user to browse if the protection is turned off....bad coding, does anyone in avast read these posts.....or test their software before release? not complaining, but am looking for an alternative, its just getting too big, awkward and doesnt do what it says on the tin, unless you switch protection off????? thanks again for input, very much appreciated.

This is an avast issue with sandboxie.
It has reportedly been fixed here.

hello Velociratptor. only seeing this now as was away from machine for a bit. i dont see much in the link provided in regard to sandboxie, except to say "the sandboxie issue has been fixed."  and clearly it is not fixed...or it would work? are they even talking about the "sandboxie issue"? ? ?? nothing is clear in that link and being frank, it tells me nothing except an unknown sandboxie issue is fixed, what issue? and im still unable to browse https sites with https blocking enabled in sandboxie.....wtf, pardon my french but again, wtf?

Just perform a clean installation of the latest version and see if it solves your problem.
