I have been using Avast home for several years now but it only about  a day or two that I have discovered a lot of errors and warnings in the log viewer showing 0000a474. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Avast hoping that this would go away but unfortunately there they are again. What gives?

Thanks for the info Tech. Sorry but  in my hurry to seek help re the error and warning logs showing a lot of 000a474s, I forgot to search the forum for previous threads.
I did look at them and tried to add to the exceptions that should not be scanned by resident scanner but was not so sure about  how to do it  or, admittedly, was too timid to break something. But suddenly they are gone (hopefully they do not come back again)!

It must have been a recent update to the virus files that did it.

In  my desperation  a few days back I reluctantly uninstalled Avast and downloaded AVG. But after seeing about AVG's update methods and its (free version) limitations, I without hesitation re-installed Avast 0000a474s notwithstanding. Well.. they are all gone now and I am once again a happy Avast dependent.

Thanks!!!

If you need in the future, for the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning) exclusions:

Left click the 'a' blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button...

For the other providers (on-demmand scanning):
Right click the 'a' blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button...
