How to apply 9x Dialup to XP:

1.Go to settings, control panel. Administrative Tools, Services Shortcut.
2.Scroll down to Net Logon. Right click Properties, Set to Automatic.
3.Do likewise for Network Connections, Remote Access Auto Connection Manager and
Remote Access Connection Manager.
4.Return to Settings. Select Network Connections. Click Advanced -at the Top- Click Dialup Preferences. -Make sure "Always ask..." and "Disable autodial..." at the bottom are unchecked.

Addendum: This will restore the "dialing" box for Firefox or any other apps, also enable Auto Disconnect for the IE stuff. In other words, just like 9x.

1.Go to Control Panel,Internet Options
2.Connections,Settings,
3.Properties,Options.
4.Under "Dialing Options",check the first one "Display progress while dialing" and the third one, "Include Windows Logon Domain".

A Really Small App

It's a small program that displays Running Tasks, Number of Current Startups, IP address, Uptime, as well as graphs for CPU and Memory utilization.
It can also tell you if network computers are connected to your PC. The program can run in the system tray and hovering the mouse over the tray icon
provides you with a quick summary of the tracked information.

When you hover your mouse over the systray icon, this is what you see:

A right click on the icon reveals the following: This program is totally free but there is a little advertisement
for what this company sells. ( Only fair considering that we aren't forced to buy it. :) )

For more information or to download the program, please go HERE. It's also available from

My New CMD Prompt Window
start > run > type--> cmd > Hit Enter

How many of you use the CMD prompt window in Win XP or 2000?
A recent article in Lockergnome prompted me to change that ugly black window
with the white letters.

Clicking on the top left corner of the CMD Window reveals the following menu:

When you select Properties, you'll be presented with the following selections:

By adjusting the color scheme in the last window, you can drastically change the way the little or large CMD Prompt window looks.

When all the adjustments have been made to your satisfaction, click on OK

and decide if this change effects only the current session or you want to make it more permanent.

Nice tip Bob, a shortcut to the Run pop-up is to press the Windows Key (if your keyboard has on is between the Ctrl and Alt keys on the left of the space bar) + the R key together and the run pop-up is displayed, then just type in your command.

An Indian discovered that nobody can create a FOLDER in Windows named as "con".

This is something pretty cool...and unbelievable...

At Microsoft the whole Team, including Bill Gates, couldn't answer why this happened!

Try it out yourself...

Very intersting and strange. I would really like to know why ???
I'm sure there is a logical answer. Maybe it triggers some internal command?

Hi bob,

Since you mentioned it the first time around, I installed A Really Small App. Very nice is the clipboard function it has aboard, good for the logs. I like it very much, cute, slim, sneak. Thanx. I wish you a good surfing time on the Internet in good health,

Two FREE media players worth checking out!

1. Evil Player is a fast, powerful and flexible media player for windows.
Some of Evil Player's key features include Shoutcast, Icecast and Icecast2 support,
low memory footprint and native support for several popular formats (MP3, MP2, MP1, OGG, AIFF and MOD).

2. Mercury Audio Player is a powerful media player for the Windows operating system.
Mercury will run on Windows 98 or later, and weighs in at the small size of 1935 KB for the MSI installation download.

Both files are also available at MySharedFiles

ShellExtension Graphics Conversion Tool

Conversions can be made between all of the following formats:

A right click on any of the supported formats brings up the following in the context menu:

You can download the program directly from HERE
The file is also available at MySharedFiles

I consider this a worthwhile addition to the context menu especially if you do a lot of things involving graphics.  :)
Enjoy.

Sure Delete v5.1.1

Sometimes "delete" means "kinda sorta delete."
When you drag a file to the Recycle Bin, you only move it to a new location.
Even when you empty the bin, your files are still retrievable by Undelete utilities.
Sure Delete permanently deletes that data from your drive.
Whether you want to shred sensitive information or free up resources on your hard drive,
this program ensures that it's done permanently. Sure Delete supports the FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS disk formats.

A download from PCWorld is available from HERE
The file is also available at MySharedFiles
