Wow, this article describes exactly the scare tactics that were used on me!!

he salesperson would then launch into a scripted sales pitch while showing images of standard Windows screens (such as the Windows Event Viewer), citing them as proof that the computer is significantly damaged. After convincing the caller that their computer is in dire shape, the salesperson would proceed to pitch them security software

but in this case, it was the unhelpful "Total Support"

The OP has already got her case solved and hence I'll close this topic.
For other issues please open new threads. If you already have a ticket number, please be patient and wait for the response  ;)

David-
I also have used AVAST for years and the virus protection has been good.  That is not what I am questioning.

I am questioning the integrity of the support that I received from the support phone number on the site that uses scare tactics to induce those of us, who may not be as tech savy as some here, to purchase tech when they are called with  a simple request like--hey,  I need to have my Avast premier reinstalled because it disappeared and went back to free Avast because of an AVAST automatic update.  Obviously the first technician was more concerned with making his commission than providing the support I asked for.  If you do a web search, it is quite obvious that this happens repeatedly and there are a number of folks who have experienced these scare tactics.

If Avast is unwilling to rectify this situation by giving me a refund, I can no longer recommend AVAST or continue to use AVAST because they employ a support service that behaves like this.     I am really disappointed and did not expected this to happen when I called with a simple support question

Hi anjou111!

Please request a refund either by phone at +1 866-951-7679 op2, or https://support.avast.com/Tickets/Submit

Cheers!

What is the significance of the op2 after the telephone number ?

I ask this because that is the same number for the standard 3rd party support, whom many have had issues with trying to sell them a support contract. Previously I thought it was mentioned that they couldn't handle refunds, so there would be little point in calling them.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

+1 866-951-7679 is the number for Avast Total Support. Option 1 is for support, option 2 is for billing (only for Avast Total Support billing enquires, including refunds for ATS, they can't handle other Avast products refunds)
