Infection blocked messages at startup
« on: March 28, 2015, 08:09:19 PM »
Every so often I get an infection blocked warning

URL htXp://epictory.com/3131/IncrementFunc_14224538168258.dll

Infection URL:Mal

Process svchost.exe

I also can no longer open up the scheduled tasks program, it tells me that I cannot reach the remote machine, though I'm not trying to reach any remote machine. I was trying to get local.

I've scanned with both Avast and Malwarebytes and neither are detecting any infected files, that is why I was trying to look at the scheduled tasks.

I know where this hides

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Select  additions at the bottom
  • Press Scan button.

  • It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Please attach both logs generated.

Break that live link with htxp://
This is a Rogue.Agent/Gen-Nullo[EXE] infection
See: https://www.virustotal.com/en/url/d2418498e8a192ce37e090032ccbe175b0d1b9bf70ffd7799a1278d5c2a24887/analysis/1427569962/

Win32 downloader virus/Rogue Agent/Gen-Nullo detected by Spybot S and D and Superantispyware, which both programs “fix,” but the virus(es) regenerates on reboot.

You need the assistance of a qualified removel expert here.
And I see you already contacted.

Uninstall Chrome
Unless you did this yourself, malware has changed your Chrome version into the Development Build. Among other things this allows malware to install any extension it wants. We need to resolve this.
1. If you have bookmarks, let's save them by exporting them - Export Bookmarks
2. Then I need you to go Google Sync and sign into your account
3. Scroll down until you see the "Stop and Clear" button and click on the button. At the prompt click on "Ok"
4. Now we need to uninstall chrome.
Note: When asked about user data or settings you must remove this also so please check the box.

THEN

CAUTION :  This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

I opted not to install Chrome right now. It wasn't synced with any account at the time so wasn't a loss. Is there a way to prevent the flip to developer mode? That's what really bothered me. In fact opening Chrome increased the notifications instantly.

Unfortunately no as the developer mode is a legitimate part of Chrome.  But, it is a security hole that Google should plug

Subject to no further problems   :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean
