Update option now password protected
« on: March 28, 2015, 03:35:28 PM »
Until a few weeks ago I was able to right click the avast tool tray and select update without putting in my password. I have checked my configuration and it would suggest that the update option is not password protected.

Avast autoupdate so there should be no need for manual update

If you or somone have password protected avast and dont remember the password, then you only have one option ... reinstall

That doesn't answer my question, it used to work.

Also I clicked program update and it downloaded an update, so yes it may well auto update but it is good to be able to do things on demand.

That was not the question........ >:(

I know the password as I set the system up.

The question is why does it now prompt for password when selecting update program or A/V defs when it never used to. It seems to be ignoring the setting against password that says whever or not to password protect such options, ie a bug.

The OP is right, I have just tested it. I think it is a bug !

Confirmed.  You'll need to enter your password to access.

2015.10.0.2208 version allowed manual update checking via right-click of avast UI in system tray with password protection set.  Newest version 2015.10.2.2215 does not allow it, even tho under password settings Update is unchecked.  Useful to check vps version or to manually update when resuming a session or boot to get the latest vps before going online.

Related issue is that once Settings is opened using password, no password is required to open it again.  A logoff and logon is required to re-enable password protection.

[EDIT:]  Appears there is a certain amount of time (10 minutes?) before password protection comes back on w/o logging off.
