Avast MBR Free Boot scan tool BSOD
« on: March 29, 2015, 01:02:52 AM »
Hello I am here today because of a BSOD and a mysterious registry key.

First what I originally found that lead me to scan the Boot file look at BootExecute:

I have the post also here so you can see the photo since it wont post here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/571505/boot-execute-mystery/?p=3666015

I found this using system internals autoruns. I unchecked those suspicious files and restarted and it created another jumbled up message similar to the one above in BootExecute

so I decided to run the Avast MBR tool and while scanning [...] I got this BSOD

from what I read about this tool is if it shuts down it means it found something and I am supposed to name something IEXPLORER.EXE but I don't remember where I saw that.

the computer logs on, its a little slow for a SSD but it does log-on.

I ran sfc /scannow and once again nothing found like it usually does.

can I please get some help with this?

Besides that, people who don't have a account on Bleeping Computers still can't see the image.

I need help from both because that is where I got the Avast MBR standalone tool. I thought maybe I would get more specific help here. but either way I need help. I only suggested the post from here is because I tried to do the proper process of embedding the photo but it didn't work so I had to post the link so people can see what I mean but apparently I need to fix that to.

an update:

I went into safe mode with networking and tried to scan again. this time the Avast stand alone scanner crashed when it got to Microsoft office root file. I am currently back into normal mode until I can get answer on how to get this to work. I am needing to check my MBR to see if there is anything in there that shouldn't be.
