Started up a replacement PC yesterday, Windows 7, 64 bit.   Came with IE, installed Firefox.   Google is homepage.  Google access works fine until I installed Avast.  After Avast installation, Firefox refuses to open pages with security certificates, like Google.   IE continues to open secure sites like Google.

Attempts in Firefox to accept an exception for certificates is ignored.  The feature just doesn't work.

When Avast web security is disabled; settings > Active Protection > web shield = OFF; Firefox accesses Google.

My conclusion, Avast does not play well with Firefox.

Carl Ellis, about to remove Avast.

Remove any previous installed av and perform a clean installation of the latest avast version.

There was no prior Avast.  The replacement box is refurb with a clean re-install of Win 7.

>perform a clean installation.

It was a standard, not a custom install of avast on a new/clean Win 7.   That's as clean as they come.

> of the latest avast version.

The download was direct from the Avast web site yesterday.  One assumes that a download is always the 'latest' version.

<Links>

Link refers to Avast not running.  My problem is Avast runs too aggressively, not dealing with security certificates from known legitimate sites and refusing to allow an exception.

It is my understanding there have been security certificates issues in recent release updates.

To my knowledge this is the latest release: Avast 2015 R2 SP1(build number 2015.10.2.2215)
Processor: i3 2.53 GHz 4 GIG RAM, OS: WIN 7, Connection: High Speed, Virus/Malware Protection: Avast-2015, SpywareBlaster, Windows Firewall & Defender. Email: Outlook 2010 w/ POP Peeper Email Notifiers.

Windows Defender is just a spyware application eddy. Only time Defender needs to be disabled is in Win 8 and it usually does that by itself once it detects that something else is already running.

Hi,
can you generate support package and send it to us? Please, don't forget to mark down it's ID and post it here.
Using this tool http://public.avast.com/supp/util/avastsupportR2.exe

Thank you,
David

Can someone advise on how to get avastclear.exe to run from safe mode ?

In safe mode, the screen resolution is so crude that there are no buttons visible.  It is not apparent how to get the program to run.

I can read the text with the paths to the installation folders and the selection box for which Avast package was installed.

But there is nothing else on the screen to tell it to run.

The 'enter' key does nothing.

carl_ellis,

lower the screen resolution and the amount of colors used in safe mode.
The graphic drivers in safe mode can't handle high screen resolution and colors.

The removal tool is usually run in regular mode and then it will run by itself in safe mode once you give it permission.
I would still suggest that you follow the request from jursa (Avast):
