avast install problems
« on: October 13, 2005, 07:25:51 PM »
After intalling avast - home and doing my first scan I have lost most of my icons in the lower right notification area, most of my multifunction keyboard shortcuts do not work and I have a "Start avast Antivirus" graphic stuck on my monitor. I cannot remove it.

Any help would be appreciated

Which is your operational system?
Which is your firewall and other security programs installed?
Do you have any other antivirus installed in this same computer?
When you run the avast! scan, did you delete any 'infected' file or send it to Chest?

I am useing Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2.

I do not use a software firewall but a router is installed.

I use Ad-Aware SE Personal and SpyBot regularly.

I had Norton antivirus on my machine but deleted it before installing avast. I still have Norton Sytemworks installed with the antivirus portion removed beforehand.

And, Yes I had several "infected files" and moved them to the Chest

Looks like the "famous" norton problem again.
1) Remove NAV completely
How to completely remove Norton (Symantec): http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606
2) Remove Avast
3) Reboot
4) Install Avast
