Malware: Assistance greatly appreciated
« on: April 19, 2015, 10:41:13 AM »
Dear Malware Gurus

I've been having trouble with some persistent malware. As others have posted, Avast has been notifying me of issues with blackfight, epictory etc. I have attached the MBAM, FRST and aswMBR.exe logs.

I would be extremely grateful for your assistance.

Thank you.

Let me know if this stops it

CAUTION :  This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote
CreateRestorePoint:
GroupPolicy: Group Policy on Chrome detected <======= ATTENTION
CHR HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google: Policy restriction <======= ATTENTION
ProxyEnable: [S-1-5-21-701259882-3153015218-2467918760-1000] => Internet Explorer proxy is enabled.

Reg: reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\IPSec\Policy\Local /f
RemoveProxy:
EmptyTemp:
CMD: bitsadmin /reset /allusers

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe

Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

THEN

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Scan.
  • After the scan is complete click on "Clean"
  • Confirm each time with Ok.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S0].txt as well.

Thanks Essexboy. This has stopped the Avast notifications.

AdwCleaner initially identified 3 registry keys (as per AdwCleaner[R0].txt):

   Key Found : HKCU\Software\Local AppWizard-Generated Applications
   Key Found : [x64] HKCU\Software\Local AppWizard-Generated Applications
   Key Found : HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Local AppWizard-Generated Applications

but only deleted 2 of them (AdwCleaner[S0].txt):

   Key Deleted : HKCU\Software\Local AppWizard-Generated Applications
   Key Deleted : HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Local AppWizard-Generated Applications

A subsequent scan and fix deleted the third however that same key is identified and deleted each time a new scan is performed (AdwCleaner[R3].txt, AdwCleaner[S1].txt):

   Key Found : HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Local AppWizard-Generated Applications

I'm not sure if this is to be expected?

Additionally, MBAM is regularly notifying of "Malicious Website Protection". Not sure if this is normal. I have attached AdwCleaner[S1].txt and an MBAM protection log in the next post.

Thanks again.

No, I don't even know what I downloaded to result in that being there.

P.S. Please accept my apologies for the delayed response.

Okay, I now understand the notifications are a result of MBAM not playing nicely with my VPN (PIA) which uses Ruby to manage connectivity - I don't believe this is a matter for concern. I assume you're aware of this and fully appreciate it would be impossible to explain it given the volume of work you must deal with and my obvious lack of technical knowledge on the topic  :)

Incidentally, I haven't received a notification since your last post. Is it possible you're magic or is this simply a coincidence?

That's awesome mate, thank you so much for all your help. I'm amazed by the level of patience you guys must have to help us nufties who persistently trash our machines by carelessly downloading shit from the dirtiest depths of the internet. Full credit to you, you're providing an incredible service.

Thanks again.
