1) If this thread is really off-topic, mods feel free to remove it.
2) I want us all to write some good news about PC's & security in this thread.
3) Please - DON'T REPLY TO POSTS (This way we'll keep it "clean" & nobody gets a chance to fight with another forum member).

Thanks,

The scourge of e-mail--spam--has reinvented itself for the world of blogs, in a phenomenon experts have dubbed "splog." And Google is in the hot seat.

Google is planning to add OpenOffice to be used on-line, without local installation.
They're making a deal with Sun Corporation.
Microsoft, to not stay behing, is planning to release in 2006 the Office Live. A stripped version of MS Office to be used on-line by the small companies that can't (or don't want to) buy full Office. I don't know if it will be allowed to home users (probably will).
The best things in life are free.

Microsoft's Other OS
Microsoft Research has developed a prototype of a microkernel operating system, code-named 'Singularity.' Its most surprising feature: It has nothing to do with Windows.

Couldn't agree more ;D

I have also got the flashblock extension for firefox, so all I see is an icon to indicate there is flash content (very handy on dial-up). I click if I want to see it, but more and more sites are using flash for navigation and not just ads. So it could become a bit of a lottery.

An attacker who manages to entice a user to a malicious Web site with a malformed Flash file could grab control of the PC, said eEye, if that user was running Windows with Administrator rights.
Mind you common sense, again plays a big part in the avoidance, backed up of course by DropMyRights.

NB The new Flash update will not display if you have Obj-Tabs ticked under Adblock options in Firefox. The Mozilla site says this is because of increased security in the Flash plug-in.

S.Z. Craftec's avatar also seems to be broken- it just judders like a paused video. I don't know if this could be Flash related?

Edit: avatar working again now. Unrelated glitch?

That is handy Frank as the Obj-Tab is selected by default id you have the AdBlock extension installed and I assume updated to the latest version.
