Installed ok and works ok on latest official W10 TP release (10061).
The speed of loading multiple web pages in tabs is a little slower than 2 competitor products, something that I guess may be improved by Avast in future versions.

is this version more sensitive? i noticed it's suddenly scanning a lot more files than it did before (every time I start up task manager, for example, it scans that, never did that before)

Like, EVERYTHING appears in the statistics now. When I scheduled a boot time scan, bcdedit.exe pops up, every time a taskeng starts I see it and what it's doing in there, every time I open a picture dllhost.exe pops up in there,  etc

Will this slow my performance?

What firewall are you using ??? Is Avast allowed access through your firewall ???
New update, new permission is needed for the new version.

You too should answer the question Bob3160 asked of air3bwm that you quoted.

The fact that utorrent works rather than normal browsing would tend to indicate that it is the web shield actions that are being blocked.

I am using Windows Firewall and Avast is allowed through.  So are my browser(s).  It seems nothing is getting through with shields enabled.  What new permissions are needed.  I have never had to add permissions for an Avast upgrade.

I"m not sure if turning the firewall off, rebooting and then turning the firewall back on will clear the blockage. (Worth a try.)
If that doesn't work, you may need to d a clean install of Avast.

I just wanted to ask would it be possible to update my existing Avast Free installation (2015.10.2.2214) by running the online installer posted by MartinZ (http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_online.exe)?

The reason for doing this is that I can uncheck the stuff that I don't want installed like NG, Browser Protection etc. If I update through GUI this stuff get installed and then I have to remove them manually, one by one, through Control Panel.

Hello, I'm new to this forum, but not new to Avast. Been using it for at least a year with no issues.

Reason I'm on the forum is I've now got an issue since performing the Avast in-program update to this version.

Issue: the Avast antivirus service attempts to start upon bootup but gets an error. When I attempt to start it manually via services.msc, gets the same error. When attempting to access the AvastUI interface, get the same error. Accessing Avast via the Control Panel gets the same error for a different program (installer I'm guessing).

Error: AvastUI.exe applcation error      "The instruction at 0x77020217 referenced memory at 0x669dce0d. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program."

Conditions: running Windows 8.0 - 64 bit (version 6.2 - build 9200), patched to current level for April 2015. No other firewall or antivirus products installed, Windows firewall is disabled.

Any assistance that could be offered would be appreciated. I've been happy with Avast and would like to have it running again.

Thanks!

I prefer to use an offline installer with my network interface disabled.  This version fails the install when it is unable to send statistics at the end of the installation process.

Hi borazon. Welcome to the forums.

For the time being just try a repair:

Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > uninstall a program > select avast! and click " Uninstall/Change ". Highlight " Repair " and then "Continue". Reboot when finished.

If it does not fix your problem, open a new topic for further instructions.

Good Luck.

I had a weird issue after I installed this update and the last. After I had a Blue Screen (unsure if related to Avast), I couldn't get past the Windows Logo screen. According to a diagnostics screen, my boot sector got corrupted.

I updated yesterday running Windows 10 build 10061 and got a bluescreen too: inaccessible_boot_device. Cost me some valuable time. After restoring from the avast restore point, I was able to boot into Windows again.

This is quite ironic too, seeing as the in-program changelog mentions compatibility with Windows 10 ;D
