Failed Avast 4 home Install (solved)
« on: October 19, 2005, 04:08:48 AM »
I have tried to install free Avas 4 Home for three times.  All  seems to be OK until I try to open the progran when I read the following advertise  "Error dbsCreate Object".   I have XP and my PC is free of virus.  What can I do?

Thanks.

:) Did you have or do you have another antivirus program
on your computer ? If yes, you will need to COMPLETELY
uninstall AND remove any "left-over" segments of that
program . If this is not done, it could interfere with the
     proper installation of Avast .

If you encounter this error while starting avast! antivirus: Error: dbsCreatObject

Or, if you are using the latest version (4.6.691), just right click the avast tray icon, select Program Settings, switch to the Troubleshooting page and check the "Use XML Storage" box.

You may try to open the <avast>\data\avast4.ini file and in the [Common] section, change the item Database=ODBC to Database=XML. This could prevent the Microsoft Jet drivers from accessing the database... does it have any (positive) effect?
