Server OS: Showing Not Supported
« on: April 22, 2015, 11:36:01 PM »
Hello,

I have just signed up for the free Avast business account. When I go to download Avast to my server running Windows Server 2008R2, I get an error stating that Avast does not support server OS's. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

According to the website:
Quote
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 (any edition with the latest Service Pack, 32-bit or 64-bit, incl. Small Business Server, except Server Core)

No clue on why you are getting that message.
Do you have (had had) any other av installed ?
Perhaps a conflict with that. (just a thought).

Its a completely new system. Nothing installed but updates. I have attached a screenshot of the error.

I did asked you if you had the latest service pack installed.
Your screenshot very clearly shows that you do have not. (SP1)

It can very well be that is the reason why it refuses to install.
There is at least SP2 (and for SQL servers SP3), as far as I remember.

Interesting. I have been running the Windows update which says the system is fully up-to-date.

Ok. So I am a bit confused. According to Microsoft, there is no Service Pack 2 for Server 2008R2. Only for 2008. Am I looking at something wrong here?

Visit the Windows update center and install all available updates.
Reboot the server and try again to install avast cloud.

Done. As shown in the screen shot, all available updates have been installed and the server has been rebooted. Same error.

Fixed it by downloading the full version and running as admin. (Not sure why it made a difference as I was logged in as the domain admin on the server?)
