Depends... from few hours (two, six...) to days.
Depends how dangerous is the virus, depends if it is in the wild and fastly spreeding in Internet...

Thank you, I almost forgot that clamav can use alterative databases that can be created with "sigtool" that follows with it.

sigtool --md5 virus > virus.hdb

Here is md5 of those viruses that I found:
