Hi Everyone,

I'm having a problem with the aswOfferTool.exe files and the accompanying popup warning box.  Every time I use the "outdated software scan" or any other Avast tools, the warning box pops up several times during the scan, interrupting it until I click on close program, after which the scan results are shown.  If I try to download other outside programs (ex. Adobe updates), the warning box pops up and crashes the download.

I have read https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=145601.0 and tried the procedure there to no avail.  I have tried uninstalling the entire Avast program and reinstalling it to no avail.  I have uninstalled Avast, waited for an updated version of the program, reinstalled it, same results.  I am out of ideas.  I would be very appreciative and thankful for any help, suggestions, links, etc.

P.S. I'm running Win XP3

Thanks for the reply Eddy.  I followed the links and and did another complete uninstall and reinstall, (including additional cleaners EZ Cleaner, IOBIT uninstaller, and CCleaner, along with Avastclear).  Rebooted, reloaded, and opened Avast.  After running the Quickscan, I tried the Scan for Outdated Software, and the old "aswOfferTool.exe" warning box popped up.  I clicked on the close button and the box popped up twice more, requiring me to hit the close button each time, until the widow showing the scanned programs opened showing that they were all current.  This was the same problem I had previously.

I am in the process of researching new notebooks/tables/hybrids in order to replace the desktop I am currently using,  (old, slow HP circa 2006 running WinXP3).  I am going to just keep using this one as is and wait for my new unit to load a fresh install of Avast.  I'm probably going to turn this hard drive into an external storage drive, and then, problem solved.  Thank again for the effort.

No need to thank me.
Spending a little of my time trying to help someone is the least I can do.

Please remove everything from IObit, they can't be trusted.

Besides stealing property from others, their software often installs unwanted things without the user knowing it.

Don't worry too much about running XP SP3.
Many people (including me) still use it on old(er) systems.
Newer OS's are too slow or not even installing on those systems.

The developers forget that there many people in the world that can't afford a new(er) system.
"Our new OS now works a lot faster then any of our previous ones"
What they don't tell is that also are using new systems and not compared it on the old(er) systems.
If they had done so, it would be
"Our new OS uses more resources then any of our previous ones" ;)

About using the drive as a external one...
Don't know what size it is, but it is often basically too small for nowadays storage needs.

I don't know what you normally do with the system, but perhaps a clean installation of XP and optimize it for
e.g.
- video editing
- storage of music
- storage of images

or use it to test and learn about other OS's like Free-BSD, Linux and such.
