Thanx for the welcome, Great Forum...

Still getting the time out Error!

Now i've made some screen shots & posted them all in the same window so forgive me if it looks a bit blegg...

On the left top i've posted all the providers status that avast gives...

At the botom is the time out error with the status bar of my outlook & my windows taskbar with the avast popup showing only 6 of 7 running even though the top left statuses clearly shows that all seven providers are running!

I do use other email providers than outlook, so that's why i leave internet mail provider running!!!

See attached pic for all the stuff i'm on about here!!!

Thanx again for all the help...

The Internet Mail provider is not for Outlook.
The Outlook/Exchange provider is.
Are you sure you increased the time out in that one?

The provider should become active as soons as you open Outlook.
If not, check the "avast plugin" in Outlook is enabled.
Can't remember where to check atm, but it is explaind in other threads on this board

Edit:
I found it:
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.

weird :o
try a repair of Avast
control panel, add/remove, avast, remove/change, repair
reboot after doing so and see it the problem is solved.

Still gives the same stuff after the repair!

Guess it's unistall & re-install...  :-\

Can you think of anything that could have caused this?

Could be anything, little power problem, interference from other application etc.
1) remove Avast
2) run the uninstall util from avast's website
3) reboot
4) install avast

Let's see if this solves it.
You even may want to use the latest version (beta)

Have you terminated the Internet Mail provider (if you are only using MS Outlook) as suggested some time ago because your image still shows it running?

I don't know if there may be some form or interaction between the Internet Mail provider and Outlook/Exchange, but terminate the Internet Mail provider if you don't need it and then there can't be any (potential) interaction between the two.

I would suggest you try this before doing the uninstall, boot, install.

How big was the attachment?
Can the attachment be compressed/zipped to reduce the size?
If all else fails, there is nothing to stop her using the option to temporarily disable the scan outbound email.

These are large high resolution digital pictures to be used for printing purposes.  She often gets around the problem by sending one at a time but that does make for more work.  I will suggest the idea of disabling the scan of outbound email and see how that goes.

That would probably be best to temp disable smtp scanning sends these then enable again, especially over dial up as the upline will only be 33.6KB per sec, so it would take absolutely ages.

I have had the same problem, in the last several days, sending attached files.  I run on a dsl connection, and could not send two files, half a megabyte in size.  So far, I have followed the advice and cancelled the scan of outgoing attachments - and I will wait to see if the uninstall / reinstall works.  I just thought it would be  of some value to report the same problem on another system.

I run Windows XP, using a dsl connection (1500 / 128), and I have been sending attachments before the last week or two with no problem.  I can't really pinpoint when this problem developed.
