I've started a new topic even though others have mentioned similar issues and at least one, exactly the same.

3 machines.
Windows 8.1 64 with AIS 10.2.2218 - Chrome
Windows Vista 32 with Avast Free 10.2.2218 - Chrome & FF
Windows XP with Avast for Business 10.0.2504 - IE & Chrome
Most noticeably when browsing, pages take ages to load, displaying "Waiting for...." in the bottom left corner. Strangely, stopping and re-starting Avast shields seems to temporarily solve the problem.

Also on the Windows 8.1 PC, strange things happened with Thunderbird IMAP SSL scanning after updating from 2217 to 2218. No new mail arrives in the inboxes. The workaround I'm using is to close Thunderbird, disable Avast SSL scanning, restart Thunderbird (the missing mail appears) and the re-enabling Avast SSL scanning.

  • Watching (over?) you
    • Malware removal, Biljart and other things.
As has been explained, mail scanning (ssl) has changed.
You will need to setup the mail account in Thunderbird correctly and it will work.

As for the other problems, see if a clean installation of avast is solving it:

SSL scanning has changed between versions 2217 and 2218?  ???
Please refer me to the place where that has been "explained".

As for a clean install solving the other problems, Both the XP & Vista are/were clean installs. (I say "were" in the Vista case because the owner has moved to another product.)
