I have recently updated my Avast subscription. When I check on my account it shows the updated subscription and the expiry date in May 2016. But I am getting a pop-up "Avast protection has expired". "Reactivate now to stay fully protected".

How do I stop this pop-up? Please.

Have you rebooted?
You could try a Repair of your Avast Installation.
Go to Control Panel/Progams(Features)/Avast and click 'change'. When Avast displays Installation options choose "Repair" and Reboot.
That should correct the issue.
