Updating with different proxy settings
« on: October 27, 2005, 09:57:49 PM »
I'm using a University network which requires me to use special proxy settings to connect to the internet. Since connecting to this network, avast! no longer updates. I assume it is because of the proxy settings.

So, is there anyway to tell avast! the new new settings, like you would with an internet browser.

Check your proxy settings into avast!:
Left click the avast icon > Settings
Update (Basic) > Details > Proxy

Make sure your browser is not set to "Work Offline" (this option is generally in the File menu).
If it doesn't help, try switching the proxy settings from "Auto-detect" to your specific proxy settings.

avast! seems to crash if I go into the details menu. I'll try a fresh install.

I thought you'll have that...
Maybe if you click Ctrl+Alt+Del and see the task manager you'll find avast.setup being executed.
You can never change into proxy settings (or any other update setting) at the same time you're performing an update.
If you kill avast.setup process you'll be able to enter into proxy details...
