Avast 2015 system restore disk space usage
« on: May 29, 2015, 10:50:46 PM »
Several weeks ago I configured my system restore setting for less disk space usage by lowering the slider, which freed up some space on my hard disk drive (C: Drive), but after a couple of days I started to notice rapid loose space. When I checked system protection the slider had reverted back to its previous usage, with the warning message “using system protection on a drive that contains system image backups will cause other shadow copies to be deleted faster than normal”. I’ve attempted to reconfigure the disk space usage, but always end up losing space. I also updated my Avast software when this issue started, and have read that it might be the cause, but am unsure. Could someone please help.

It's most likely related to the "Secure Virtual Machine" (NG) module;
To disable that feature, use Control Panel > Programs and Features > Select Avast >
Select Change > Scroll down and uncheck Secure Virtual Machine.
Once the operation is finished, Reboot your System.
You should now be able to control the amount of space set aside for System Restore.
