Windows 10/Avast
« on: June 01, 2015, 06:34:58 PM »
Hi, new to the forum, and unsure if this has been covered already. I've had avast for 400some days now, as it keeps telling me. Anyways, I turned on my computer today and saw the "reserve windows 10" icon in my tray, and am curious. I saw a post saying avast doesn't cover windows 10 as of dating of the post, but with it coming out next month? i believe, if i switch over to 10, I'll have to re-install avast correct? does that mean I lose anything else? I've never actually updated an OS myself. I'm pretty sure I'd lose everything on my HD if I did though. Any and all responses would be helpful. Thanks.

Is this related to what you are experiencing - as Microsoft get ready to give away windows 10 to qualifying users of other OSes.

Since the current win10 is a Preview version avast and other AVs will be playing catchup as new win10 builds get released.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

When a new (version of a) OS comes out, it is always a good practice to install everything from scratch.

You will not loose anything at all if you practice something everyone should do... BACKUP DATA.
Upgrading a OS mostly works without loss of data, but there is always a change that something goes wrong.

Besides the above, it is always a good practice to have recent backup of the data.
Applications can be downloaded/installed again, data not.
And never keep the backup in the same place/near where your system is.
Let's say your house will go up in flames...
You will loose the data as well as the backup.

It is most likely related to the following compatibility problem:

The conflict is with the Avast firewall module.

@ Bob,
I'm not so sure that is what he is on about.

So my thoughts were about the windows 10 give away in the link I gave.

But for sure if he is using the latest win10 beta, he would likely to come up against the initial incompatibility issue in the link you gave.
