I've had Avast installed for 1-2 years now but have largely used it for realtime virus protection.  Yesterday, I attempted to run a quick scan for the first time and my computer began acting very sluggish (and eventually froze up) at around 45%.  I was unable to get to the task manager using Ctrl+Alt+Del so I simply held down the power button on my laptop to restart.  I tried it again and the same thing happened.

What have I done so far (based on similar posts):
-I've repaired the installation using Control Panel --> Programs --> Uninstall --> Repair option
-I've run CHKDSK at boot time

However the problem persists.  The scan freezes on the following file, which, based on some google searches, seems to be part of Intel's WiFi driver package:
"C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\WiDi\Win7\S64\DRIVERS\NETwNc64.dll"

Any suggestions?
