Sygate problem
« on: October 24, 2005, 06:30:12 PM »
I've downloaded sygate personal firewall
Like it very much and decided to bought it.So I uninstalled the old free version and installed the pro version. So far so good. After the restart the firewall is working but windows doesn't recognize the pro version. And when i used the free version 5.6 it was recognized. Is this only mine problem or every pro 5.5 version isn't recognized by windows security center?
It's the latest version ??? ??? ??? ???
For now the  firewall notifications are turned off.(security center)

Yes, that 5.6 free is the only one recognized by XP SP2 security center.
I use the free 5.5.2710 version that is not recognized.
(Well, currently I am running Kerio 4.2.2)

Must be some reason why users complain about free 5.6 and Pro version is still 5.5.2710 ???
So I would not touch that free 5.6 anymore.
I had myself an incidence when Avast network shield warned me about attack, cause that SPF 5.6 version was late starting.

I did run beta 5.6 pro though and it worked well. It was half a year ago.

IMO both free and pro SPF 5.5.2710 are good products.

That is a popup that is not working in SPF. Checking that out.
It is a long time bug.
You need to hide that from "options/notification messages".

You could read my Sygate Guide:
http://www.kotiposti.net/string/SPF_eng/SPFGuide.html

I really like Sygate FW, and I have no connection to the providers, just a senior member in that site.

Now I am again running another firewall, Kerio 4.2.2, but i never leave SPF completely since it is a firewall that never causes me no troubles. But hard since it has no saving firewall configuration in free version that I need to come back.
For loggings, no one better than Sygate.

And it's not being discontinued right?I mean will there be any updates in the near future.Because as far as I now version 5.5 is an old one.

I am back to Sygate.

I liked Kerio 4.2.2 a lot, same as 2.1.5.
Very user friendly interface.

The only problem I had with Kerio 4.2.2 is:
From running my computer 24/7 as I do, I lost my cable modem internet connection about once/day. It stopped logging too. No 100% CPU usage or any such things as high memory usage. Only to get my internet back I needed always to reboot when that happened.
I got no clue from logs what had happened.
My ISP DNS and DHCP server IP's are not changing, it was not that.

I ran Kerio with both the default setting and mostly only application rules. And also with Blitzen Zeus's Packet filter rules, but same thing happened.

Whether Kerio is to blame I cannot really tell, cause I also tried AntiHook program, and maybe it or something else left leftovers in my computer.

So I am back with Sygate and I will tell if I have messed up my computer with too many security programs or something and Sygate also stops working as it never has before.
If you don't see my post in this thread about this, then SPF is working to me as it always has great.

Avast sure had nothing to do with that problem with Kerio I think :)
