Problem with Avast email server?

I have had nothing but a continual headache from my Outlook Express email over the last 2 days or so. I have uninstalled the Avast email account protection and reset my OE settings. This allowed me to get mail 1 time. I rebooted later in day and now nothing lets my email thru. Is there some problem with the Avast mailserver? It continually rejects my password. I have retyped the password about 50 times. I am at my wits end here. Thanks for any help.

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'pop-server.carolina.rr.com', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Authentication failed', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
