read_fd_with_timeout failed for client
« on: July 02, 2015, 10:53:28 PM »
Hi all,

192.168.1.7 - Windows 7
192.168.1.129 - Windows XP
192.168.1.81 - Windows 8.1
All in the same workgroup

Server & Gateway: Linux SME-9 up to date, as a firewall to Internet

I have a persistent problem. I have those messages repeating exactly  every 10 minutes for all Windows machines:
Quote
Jul  2 16:35:58 dorgee proftpd[6543]: 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.81[192.168.1.81]) - FTP session opened.
Jul  2 16:35:59 dorgee proftpd[6543]: 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.81[192.168.1.81]) - FTP session closed.
Jul  2 16:36:07 dorgee smbd[6547]: [2015/07/02 16:36:07.097597,  0] smbd/process.c:244(read_packet_remainder)
Jul  2 16:36:07 dorgee smbd[6547]:   read_fd_with_timeout failed for client 192.168.1.81 read error = NT_STATUS_END_OF_FILE.

It took me a long time to find out that if I uninstall Avast, the problem go away.

I installed Wireshark and the machine all try to contack an Avast server every 10 minutes.

On the SME server I ajusted all the timeouts for a long time to activate with no result.

Any suggestions appreciated,

André
