I found the problem. I turned off the Web Shield and I gained access to the internet all web sites that I wanted to go to. Therefore, I believe that I have to uninstall avast and re-install the program

I had the malwarebites on the computer ran the scan and no viruses etc. Then I tried to download on this computer the tools and could not do so

Had a haunch and went with it

Before you jump and attack, ask if I tried.

You assume that I did not follow instructions, but you were wrong. I attempted to download but to no avail

This makes us all look bad.

We assume a thing and are wrong.

FYI you should have said did you try these tools first. I would say I tried but struggled through the download process.

Some people are experts in this process and others are not.

Those that are not should be treated with respect and not disrespect.

When you try to download FRST what error do you get ?

What firewall do you have on the computer that cannot connect

I have not unistalled the program yet. I need someone who can do this for me.

I thought that there was a different way to go about doing this.

OK could you do the following on the poorly computer for me

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
 
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
 
  • Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Select  additions at the bottom
  • Press Scan button.

  • It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from. 
  • Please attach both logs generated.

Do you have a USB drive that you could use ?

Also if Avast is installed on the poorly computer then try the following :

Right click the Avast orange icon near the clock and select shield control
Select disable for 10 minutes and see if you can access the net
