Avast 4.5 home edition crashing my comp!

Can anyone tell me why avast 4.5 keeps crashing my comp. Using winxp pro, zone alarm firewall configured to be used with avast.

There really is insufficient information to hazard a guess.
However, I suggest that you download the latest version of avast, which is 4.6.691, uninstall the existing version, boot, install the latest version. Ensure that you still have your old registration key or register again and a new key will be sent to you - avast! 4 Home Registration

Maybe you don't have even to uninstall the existing version to install the latest one.
Just update Program while connected to the Internet.

Not when I worte it

I was just thinking that the 4.5 - 4.6 was a big jump and getting the latest version and VPS updates would be better for the future, keeping a copy of the setup file that is downloaded.

You're right. Thinking better, it would be advisable to download the full setup file again.

Thanks ........I uninstalled and  updated to avast 4.6 home edition and the scan ran without any problems!
