Using System Restore with Avast
« on: July 15, 2015, 12:36:47 AM »
I'm running Win 7 64 bit. I'm using Aavast free version. 2015.10.2.2218

About 4 months back I was having a problem with Win 7's System Restore increasing beyond the manually set limit. It turns out the issue was related to additional features included with Avast. I'm betting it's probably already been discussed here a lot, but here's the thread - see "Best Solution"

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2434999/win-system-restore-resetting-usage-set.html

Disabling those features solved the problem.

I just did a re-install of Win 7 a week ago on a 120GB SSD, and re-installed Avast. This time I only installed File Shield, Web Shield, Browser Protection, and Software Updater.

Today i noticed my System Restore had increased beyond the amount I had manually set it to. My usable disk space on the 120GB SSD is 111Gb; I had set Sys Restore to 6% and it correctly calculated that to 6.7GB. However the usage is up to 7.33 GB. I'm not sure whether this is another issue related to Avast or something entirely different.

So with Avast 2015.10.2.2218 and only the above four features installed, is it possible the Sys Restore increase is being caused by Avast?
Thanks

That's strange, I thought I had the latest version. Anyways I updated to the latest from your link - version 2015.3.2223 and that has solved it. Sys Restore has shrunk back down to 6.3GB.

Thanks for the help
