I thought I was home free, but the popup just appeared a few seconds ago.

Thank you for your help so far, and thank you for your patience.

Edit: I'd just like to point out that I haven't seen a popup since the last one. It's either become rare, or something else.

Edit Again: I'm seeing it pop up a little more. Not nearly as frequently as before, though.

Yeah, sorry, I guess I forgot to mention. I did that and then restarted afterwards.

FRST search

Once again we shall use FRST for additional checks. Re-run FRST/FRST64 by double-clicking:
  • Copy wpad into the Search: field in FRST then click the Search Registry button.
  • FRST will search your computer for files and when finished it will produce a log Search.txt in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please attach it to your reply.

Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.
Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.
Please attach it to your reply.

Okay so, things got a little complicated... When I ran the tool, it froze while deleting a certain file in Firefox's app data (I think). I tried to print screen a picture, but Windows suddenly locked up and I literally couldn't do anything. I even got an error message while trying to access the ctr-alt-delete menu. After staring at a grey screen for a few hours, I had to just manually turn my computer off.

I haven't seen the error message yet, but I'm pretty sure it'll appear again, as it did the last time. I can't tell if maybe the file in question was protected, or that was a massive error on my PC's part, or what. I don't seem to have any error log of it, as nothing was produced.

Do you have Fixlog.txt?

Fixlist above contained fix for your issue and I think it is fixed. Farbar probably froze because of other routine it had to perform, but that is nothing important.

How is your PC behaving now?

It's been a good day or so and I haven't seen the popup yet, so I think I'm in the clear. I'll just make a new thread if the error ever resurfaces, but I'm extremely optimistic right now since I haven't seen any trace of it.

You can expect to receive a donation at some point, a token of my appreciation. Thank you.

Looking forward to it, thank you :)

Post-cleanup procedures:

Download DelFix by Xplode and save it to your desktop.
  • Run the tool by right click on the icon and Run as administrator option.
  • Make sure that these ones are checked:
    • Remove disinfection tools
    • Purge system restore
    • Reset system settings
  • Push Run and wait until the tool completes his work.
  • All tools we used should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:\DelFix.txt)
The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.
