Windows 10 Support?
« on: July 21, 2015, 04:54:16 AM »
We currently getting ready to upgrade to Windows 10 in our organization.  I just tried to install Avast client on a workstation and I got an error that Avast 8.0 is not supported.  We currently are running Avast AEA 8.0.369.  Does anyone have any idea of when it will be upgraded to install on Windows 10.  Our organization has been testing Windows 10 for several months and just received the RTM version 10240 as the final build.

This is a note sent by AVAST Software to the reseller channel:

Quote
Windows 10 Compatibility

Microsoft has recently announced Windows 10 will be available as of July 29th. We expect many will be looking to upgrade, if not immediately then within the 1 year in which the upgrade will be free for Win 7 and 8 users, if they are eligible for it.

Endpoint Protection (all versions) will be receiving an update to make it Win 10 compatible, however this update will not yet be ready when Win 10 becomes available. The current ETA of the update is late August, but may change.
We recommend resellers consult with their EP customers regarding their plans for Win 10 migration and advise them about the compatibility issue. While home users tend to adopt early (and are ok to do so if using the already Win 10 compatible Avast consumer products), we believe most businesses will not choose early adoption, and will instead favor a more careful approach to keep disruptions to a minimum. We will likely still see cases of customers looking to migrate as soon as possible for various reasons, our main concern is that the compatibility issue does not come as a surprise.

We believe it to be a sensible precaution to not adopt an OS early in a commercial environment. We strongly recommend that customers only make the switch to Win 10, if they have decided to make it, after Avast becomes compatible. Apologies for any inconvenience this causes to you and your customers, we are counting on you, our reseller partners, to help us mitigate the impact this will have on end users and help them make informed choices regarding the OS upgrade.

I just upgraded my laptop and had to re-install Avast, which seems to have worked except for this error -

"This driver cannot be used due to compatibility issues

avast! self protection module
AVAST Software

You can get help on the Microsoft website. If a solution exists, follow the instructions to try to fix the problem."

Hopefully the update comes sooner rather than later, as we plan to get a majority (if not all) of our devices upgraded before school starts at the beginning of September.

Update - Clients are not updating their definitions from the AES. I'm confused if it's successfully updating from the web either.

My current version is 150729-0 (which is when I upgraded to Windows 10), and the last update attempt is 7/29/2015, however I have established a connection to streaming updates and the last update received is 8/13/2015.

I find myself searching for updated information on this as well.  School is starting up next week and I was planning on re-imaging our main computer lab to Windows 10 before it starts.  Not something I want to do while school is in session.

Pushed out a client/definition update or initial install on the W10 client(s)? We've had ours successfully install (minus the driver compatibility issue that stops it from updating) since W10 was released on July 29th.

I also upgraded a few computers to win 10.  Avast was removed and when I try to install it again, it says it's not compatible.  A few of them got Avast back, but the free version...

I guess Avast was downloaded and installed automatically ???  Check the about window and see if it's the free version.

We have been unable to install the school edition of AVAST! on our Windows 10 laptops.  If anyone is successful doing this, please let me know.
