Just to say it was 2215 I reverted to and not 2218.

Since my 2nd time with 2225 some of my Microsoft programs no longer work. Windows Media Player, System Restore, Windows Update and others are inoperable. The media files play with VLC and CCleaner shows the restore points to be intact.
Sorry but Avast doesn't change your assigned programs. If you now have VLC as the default player, it wasn't caused by Avast. As for the rest of the problems,
I suggest you do some more checking since Avast has nothing to do with your Windows updates. Your comment related to System Restore points doesn't make any sense ???
More information might help us get to the bottom of your problems.

HTTPS scanning fails miserably in build 2225 under Win XP 64bit SP2. I can't browse any https:// site. Disabling avast or HTTPS scanning fixes it. Tried clean reinstall, nothing.

Firefox won't allow me into https sites, complaining about wrong certificates.

It works fine under win8.1/win7

No default programs were changed. WMP was still there but it wouldn't open. System Restore wouldn't open. User Accounts wouldn't open. Windows Update opened IE8 and repeatedly gave me a warning about my homepage trying to load a webpage that was on my trusted list - which eventually would load a blank page. I tried uninstalling WMP and reinstalling it - to no effect. I was going to look at the MS programs in the C: directory and I noticed a new folder - 92cxxxxxxwhatever. There was a new installer in the folder that failed to run with this message: "This application failed to start because updspapi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." A ran a Google search and it's something to do with the MS operating system. Anyway...I downloaded a trial program which installed a new Updspapi.dll and everything works fine again. I don't know if the original file was damaged in a crash or a crash occurred during a Windows update. Maybe, (hopefully) Avast wasn't to blame. However should anyone else encounter the same problem the free trial at dll-files.com/fixer/ sorted the problem for me. Moderators are free to edit or delete this post if they have a better solution or they think i'm advertising.

After updating to 2225 some week ago my computer (Vista) started to freeze but after unstalling and installing 2218 (link in this thread) it works fine.

Well that is somewhat strange as in 10.3.2225 avast should recognise you have XP SP2 (not SP3, see note below) and not install the element required to scan HTTPS pages in XP. So it shouldn't be scanning HTTPS pages at all. I don't believe it should have the HTTPS option in the Web Shield settings, as it was before avast 10.3.2223.

NOTE: win XP SP2 64bit, it doesn't have an SP3 and is by all accounts based on windows 2003 and not XP.

I would suggest that you do a clean reinstall of avast 2225, uninstall from add remove programs, reboot and run the avast uninstall utility, reboot and install avast.
- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, avastclear.exe http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe and save it to your HDD before you uninstall avast.

Another problem I had with my .dll issue was MC Shield showing a start-up error. The error was at 0x7c812fd3. I did a bit of digging and found this web-page:

http://support.emsisoft.com/topic/15537-blocking-wmp-crashes-winxp-solved/

Could it all be related?

Related to what? none of what you're mentioning has anything to do with Avast.

Thanks so much. I got already 2218 version..but in the virus basket i got 4 virus..now what will happens if i make a clean install of 2218? These viruses will be gone along with Avast 2225 or its will be again in my system?

More over people: some of you read upgrade in the main window of Avast when you click onto the round ball avast icon?

If you clean install Avast then whatever is in the chest is deleted also.

Now what is the best way to do: use the avast clean tool, or just disinstall manually (in vista i just need to go into control panel and click onto disinstall the program) ?

Using the Avast clean tool will give the best result.

@DavidR: please read my post again, I already did a clean re-install.

I know there's no SP3 for XP64. What I don't know is if avast distinguishes between XP 32 and XP 64...

As an avast user like yourself I can't say for certain and can only base my thoughts on what has been seen in the forums. I suspect it doesn't as XP SP2 seems to be the criteria, as XP Pro 64bit SP2 seems to get caught up in this inability to scan HTTPS pages.

Many problems in my Dutch Vista after online update to AVAST 2015 R3sp1 (2015.10.3.2225)
All my browsers cannot reach internet anymore (not found message or hang).
Also I cannot download anymore.
Even the automatic update of Avast virusdefs don't work.
The update done by myself (so by hand) of Avast virusdefs never ends.

After disabling Avast everything is normal again.
Same problems after a clean reïnstall.
Everything is OK after going back to 2015 R2.

I got these problems also allready in AVAST 2015 R3 (2015.10.2.2223).

Again I ask the Avast Team: why going final (2x) without Vista support !!

Even an Avast clean with avastclear.exe in Safe Mode reboot did not help.
Any suggestions ?
