icon spinning

When the icon in the tray is spinning nothing happens.  Why is the icon spinning sooooo much??

It is a function of active real-time scanning of processes and files being read and inspected on-the-fly.  The spinning icon is showing active real-time scanning as it is happening on your system.

And if you don't like the spinning icon : Avast - Settings - General - and deselect " Animate the icon when scanning".
